Legal portion is a legitimate hereditary title and consists of half of the legitimate inheritance. A person entitled to a legal portion is not an inheritor by that, but has a pecuniary claim to the amount of his or her legal portion against the inheritors.

Siblings do not have a claim for legal portion, but parents do as long as the decedent doesn’t have own children.
